Well, I guess I'll tell on myself! Last week was final muzzleloading season for the year. I love to hunt with black powder been doing it since the seventies. Well I've been after this really nice buck all season. Last Thursday I finally was in the right place he came within 65 yds of me I had him dead in my sites, then it happened pop! Cap went off but powder failed. He was startled but only made a few steps. I slowly recapped my gun, but he was behind a cedar tree so I never got another shot. Well it was getting dark so I left the woods. When I got back home I removed my nipple to clean my gun. When I tried to put the nipple back in it would not fit?? It would not engage the threads? When I started looking I noticed that the threads seemed to be too large for the nipple. Now I've been using the same nipple for about five years it's a Green Mountain barrel. I called my friend Oldman the Mod here. He said bring it over to that a look. When we started looking at it he looked at me and said how long have you been using this nipple I told him. He said you have been lucky because this is the wrong nipple! It's a CVA I guess I got the two confused at some time since I have a CVA Hawken too. Well lucky for me he had an extra. This goes to show about anyone can make a bad mistake! I had shot that gun at least a hundred times or more since geting that barrel! I guess God kept saying man you are asking for it! I'll always check from now on!
