This is a question that always comes up! I say wine because to preserve grape juice it would have to have been fermented!
The second part of this question is it a sin to drink alcohol? Also if you think it's a sin is it more serious than others sins?

I don't know of Jesus drinking wine other than communion. Am I wrong abut this ?
I think it was wine and not grape juice because the Bible says he turned the water into wine.
Therefore, I don't believe it is a sin to drink alcohol, or Jesus wouldn't have turned water into wine, but I do believe it is a sin to be a drunkard because the Bible says so.

He drank wine in social settings, and even supplied a bit when a wedding ran short.
No sin in drinking, Paul even told Timothy to "drink a little wine for the stomach's sake". The key words there are "a little".
You should control alcohol, not the other way around.
I regularly drink in social settings. Just don't have too much.

Thanks gd3006, I thought he only drank wine for communion. I don't like wine but I do drink a beer now and then.

I don't think Jesus drank wine as we know it today. Historical research shows by the time a person consumed enough wine to become drunk the body would have already digested it. Therefore, Jesus did not serve wine that people would become drunk off of. Thats why scripture says do not consume strong drink, such as beer. It is really important not Americanize scripture but to read it in the context it was written. I know some will quote the the wedding feast at canaan but getting drunk is not what the scripture is talking about there. So lets not add things to the text that it is clearly not talking about. God Bless

Interesting replys to the question! I do not think drinking drinking "alcohol" is a sin, but if it's done to excess that is a sin because it is harmful to the body! That being said I also think doing anything in excess is a sin over eating that causes you to become overweight. There are many sins and all are objectionable in the eyes of God!

In the original language it expressely forbids drunkeness, andevry time someone in the Bible got drunk bad things happened, strong drink denotes whiskey and liquers. Wine if it does not offend is alright, as is a beer once in awhile, but the Scriptures also state do not offend your brothers, so if a spiritual brother or sister are offended by alcohol in any fashion dont drink it around them. It realy comes down to ones own convictions, but either way any form of drunkeness is strictly forbidden, even the "buzz" is drunkeness
