Hey everybody need some input. Our Church is without a Pastor now and we are in the search process.
First let me give you some background our Church is Southern Baptist. Our Pastor just left to take a Church in his home town after 16 years here. We have a women deacon and a divorced deacon. Our search committee has interviewed several candidates and most have a problem with a woman deacon, and none have questioned the divorced deacon. I really have more concern with a divorced deacon than I do with a woman. What do you all think?

This is a very uh...heated topic of discussion in some circles, so I'll try not to offend anybody.
I think that ideally, men are to fill the office of deacon, but I think that in the lack of qualified men, God will use women to fill the office...if God sees a need it will be met.
The question of divorce is a tougher call...you are talking about 2 people each with a free-will. When you become married, the 2 do become 1, but I think that there does remain the possibility that 1 of the 2 could choose to become 1 again. Because of that I think that a divorced deacon should be looked at case by case...it's not right to hold a man of God accountable for his ex wife's choices or actions...IMHO
What does everybody else think?

HC, Hard to imagine being terribly comfortable with either. Although, I'd be a little put off by the divorce thing. My question would be, was he divorced before or after he was saved, and has he remarried since? I guess not knowing the individual circumstances behind the situation makes it a tough call. JMHO

This is a tough call in todays world. But Jesus said"All have sin and fell short of the glory of god. So if we being born into sin, and all haved sined, who are we to judge, if we being in sin also. Paul said, "I have sined daily, but he also repented dailey. We being born into sin, sin and not even realising it. As Jesus said to the mob that were going to ston MarryMagaline for her sin, when he finished writeing in the sand, "who of you, being without sin cast the first stone". I think that we should say our selves, Are they carrying out the office of Decon, according to screptures, and in a Godley manner? Then why not. Jesus said to his Disiples, "Judge not least you be judged your selves. I think we should Give God a chance to work his GLORY in,"Who so ever will. maybe by being the person who comes in and sweeps the floor is a way for that person to feel that they are really searving God is some Respect. All Jobs are inportant, and are for a reason. Who knows but God himself. I my self don't have a problem with it, But in tridition It has been a man thing, to be a decon. But we do live in a new erra today. I love God with all my heart, despite my downfalls and sins, he love me too!!! MJEdens
