-What's your favorite deer cartridge or gauge (rifle, shotgun or handgun)? -What type of action do you prefer in the rifle, shotgun or handgun you use most of the time for deer hunting?
What sighting system does your deer rifle, shotgun or handgun have, scope, red dot, holosight, receiver sight, open sights?
-If you prefer a bow, is it a recurve, stick & string or a compound?
-Which manufacturer produced your favorite deer hunting rifle, shotgun, handgun or bow?
Here's my answers:
cartridge = 30.06 Rem.
type of action = Semi-auto
type of sight = Burris Widefield 3-12x50mm
manufacturer = Remington

I guess it depends on where I am hunting. I have A custom made 30/06 that I used for years that was passed down to me. Then I went and bought my wife A remington 700 which A friend and I did some work on. Put A custom thumbhole stock on it did A trigger job and floated the barrel Mounted A Leupold 3x9x50 scope. It shoots excellent and I use it most of the time now. Just purchased A Weatherby Mark V Synthetic in 257Wby Mag. Have A Zeiss 3.5x10x44 Target scope with built in rangefinder mounted on it. From the groups I have been shooting with it I do beleave I am going to like this rifle alot ;D. My Elk rifle is A Sako in 338 Win Mag with A Leupold 4X12X40. All of my rifles are fed handloads. When I go to Illinois I use A H&R Model 980 Ultra Slug gun With A Leupold Gilmore Red Dot scope on it loaded with 3 in Barnes Expander saboted slugs. All of them are bolt actions except the slug gun which is A single shot.

I can't say I have a favorite. I hunt deer with every thing from a bow to a smoke pole to more rifles than I can count off the top of my head plus a bunch of handguns. What I prefer is rotating guns to give each a chance to score during deer season. I even use elephant guns on them. Have a new .416 Rigby that will certainly go to the whitetail woods. Can't help it. I am addicted to guns. ;-)reflex264

Here in Iowa for the firearm season we have been limited to shotgun only. I have tried many shotguns over the years for deer. Ithaka Featherlite, Remington 1100, Remington Gold, Mossberg 500, and a Winchester 1200. I've used open sights, rifle sights,red dots, and low powered scopes. I always end up going back to the Mossberg 500 with the red dot scope. I've always shot 12 gauge. The bottom tier of counties is now open to high power rifles for the special doe season. But I haven't done that yet.
Bowhunting I shoot a Martin Firecat and carbon arrows tipped with Allen expandables. I started with a recurve when I was a youngster, (40# Redwing), I still have the old bow. Then I went to a Jennings Trail Boss, Then to a Martin Couger, and now my current bow. I love the Martin Bows. Fast, accurate and quiet. I don't shoot overdraw, there is just to much room for error there for me. I use sights (illuminated, my eyes ain't what they used to be, and illuminated sights really stick out for me)

i use a mossberg 500 i "inherited" (read took without bronc having a say in the matter) with a low powered scope on it for gun season. i took my first buck with a gun this year with it (a 8 pt).
i shoot a cva eclipse during the muzzleloader season, but hopefully will upgrade in a few years.
during bowseason (which is my favorite) i shoot a bear instinct with a pendulum site. i just bought the bow this past season after a mishap with my old bear bow. it is a really nice bow and throws a quick arrow. unfortunately i havent been able to put a deer down with it yet, though i did miss a couple last season (all due to bad form on my part).

I have owned or shot quite a few different calibers through the years with great success, but since I started shooting my TC I have fallen head over heal's in love with the 280 caliber.
With Marjie being of short statue and short armed it took a youth model Browning 260 to fit her, and it's been a great caliber for her.
When we get to visit Marjie's Family in Indiana, Marjie use's an 11-87 slug gun and I use the 209X50 muzzleloader barrel on my TC.
Bow hunting.........maybe one of these days
