It is that time of year again. Please post your 2008-2009 deer harvest photos here. Feel free to add a narrative in your post, but please do not post commentary replies to posts here.

Here's a couple from home... My brother Jesse took a nice young 8 point this morning, his first buck. I spoke with him over the phone, and he was just flying. Congrats brother! Way to go! gd

This is from one of my 2008 kills I posted on another forum. Howdy fellers. I got soaked this morning. The radar didn't look that bad. I had barely got situated in the tree when the bottom fell out. I took off 1/4 mile away to one of the blinds. The rain began to slack up. I took some Mrs. Doe Pee and sprayed it on a cotton scent wick 80 yards in front of the blind then sprayed the rest of it on the trees and ground around the wick. I had only been in the blind for about 15 minutes when a doe came out in front of me. She got even with the scent and sniffed a little. She looked back from where she came and the buck was right behind her. He got the the scent and peeled off from following her and started sniffing the doe pee I put out. They kept walking up to him and then turning to show him she was leaving but he wouldn't leave the mrs doe pee. I watched this go on for about 5 minutes. I examined the rack very close with binos. He has some weird things going on. I thought about it and the rifle I was carrying and decided this would make a good set of antlers to go with this rifle. I shot him right in front of the shoulder on a quartering shot. He was 82 yards by the range finder. He dropped so fast it looked like someone yanked the ground out from under him. The load was a 265gr Hornady over 41.0grs IMR4198 lit by a 210M. He isn't a monster but I had fun, after getting soaked with out my rain gear. The back straps are pretty big. We still have a 8pt main frame that will go 160+ hanging out but he is staying out of sight during the day. I am going to take these tarsel glands and place them so old big boy will think someone has invaded his turf. We have another week. Anything can happen. reflex264 I used my 1968 marlin .444 with a k3 in pivot mounts. The rifle is a jewel.

Here is a doe from 2008 and story from another forum I posted on. I carried my very first custom rifle yesterday. First time it has been to the woods in years. After I shot the doe she made a couple of hops and went off into one of the drainage ditches that lead to the river. 8' deep and lots of water. 20' more and we would have never recovered her. The river is up because of all the rain and the ditch was flowing tons of water. I got down in the ditch at one of the crossings and waded up to the deer. Water over the tops of my boots. Very unpleasant. Dropped my cell phone in the water. Matt had to go get one of the tow straps from Eyore and it took both of us to get her out. It was worse than it sounds. The rifle is a 95 Mauser action (low pressure) with a Shaw barrel in 7x57, Dayton trigger and safety, bolt handle reshaped for scope use and a 4X Redfield scope in Millett mounts. You can't push these actions. I used 42grs of H414 with a 154 Hornady Round Nose at around 2600fps. Plenty for 300 yard shots on deer. This rifle was built by Judges in 1985. I have shot a pile of deer with it but it has taken off the last several years. It was great to get it back out and in action. I have a Bishop walnut stock and a Ramline synthetic for it. I used the Ramline on this trip. I had to have gatgun work on it a few years ago (headspace was off) and haven't carried it much since. It may start going more again. reflex264
