The place where I deer hunt has turkeys everywhere. They are always yelping and such. I have a fall archery tag, so in case one walks close enough, I can take it. Even though I am hunting a bow only WMA, as a precaution against the idiots out there, I always wear hunter orange to and from my tree. I roll it up and put it on the bottom half once I get up in the tree. Yesterday I had a turkey walk in from directly behind me to literally right under my stand. I heard him walking in and had my bow ready. Just a second or two after he was right underneath me, he did a 180 jogged a few steps and took off for the next county. I know turkeys can see color, especially red and blue. All my stuff including my orange vest has been hit with UV killer. I wasn't moving and he never really looked up, so I am wondering if he saw the orange right above his head, or if it might have been my pull-up rope hanging down.
I never really hunted turkeys while deer hunting before this year, so I never gave it any thought. I had on the same clothes I wear on cold days in the spring that I have killed birds that close before with. Anybody got any thoughts or suggestions?
