Hey this is the time of year I love! I really enjoy turkey hunting maybe more than about any of the rest!
I got my start back in the late seventies with a friend I worked with. We both got the fever about the same time! Then there were few places in Kentucky to hunt. I remember our first local area hunt. Neither of us were great callers. I had a slate and he used a mouth call. We hunted without success for a few years without success. I moved to a new area and finally connected alone by calling and crawling on a two jakes, that was enough to make me live for turkey hunting! I've gotten several nice toms over the years, but that's the birds I'll always remember!

I first started turkey hunting with a friend I bowhunted with. I didn't get anything, but had a blast, and he killed a couple of birds (long story, won't get into it). The next year I took a nice bird (22 lbs, 10 1/8" beard, 1 1/4 and 1" spurs). That kinda pulled me in. been hunting them successfully every year since then (I'm due to go emptyhanded...).

helped my son when he was 15 (he is now 23) chase turkey the next year we both started after them. his first and best was a double beard 9" & 7" with 1" spurs. mine was a tripple bearded 2 year old or a 10 1/2" beard 1 3/8"spurs 25# bird both really stick in my mind.
