What do you think it is to be a Christian?
When the Barna Group does its research, it categorizes people as "Born-again Christians" if they agree with the following 2 statements:
"I have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that is still important in my life today", and "I will go to Heaven after I die because I have confessed my sins and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior."
Interestingly, in a 2005 poll, 80% of Americans surveyed described themselves as "Christians"; 68% described themselves as "Committed Christians"; 45% described themselves as "Born-again Christians"; and 44% agreed with the 2 statements above.
I think agreement with those 2 statements is a good indicator of whether someone is a Christian. I'd like to know if people disagree with the use of those statements as an indicator of belief in Jesus. Should there be some other or different description used?

I'd have to agree with josha-I think its hard to categorize people based upon an agreement or disagreement of a couple of sentences. When I think about the people I know who would agree with both of those statements and then think about how many of them I would say are Christians, it would be somewhere around 40-50%...based upon their actions. It is a much easier walk said than done. I think we all live to the standard that the Word of God presents to us.
