This is our "Statement of Faith" for the Fellowship of the Outdoors. We can use it, but we need to add a section relating to trapping? Can somebody help?
We believe that there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19, Luke 3:21-22, John 14:14:16-26, I John 5:7)
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only perfect, trustworthy Word of God. (II Timothy 3:16, II Peter 1:21)
Jesus Christ is the express image of God who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died upon a cross for the sins of the world, and whoever truly trusts in Him shall be saved for all eternity. He died, was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven in a glorified body where He now sits at the right hand of the Father. He will one day return and judge the world in righteousness (Hebrews 1:3; John 1:14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-7; Acts 17:31). Jesus Christ’s personal return will take place at God's appointed time. We know neither the day nor the hour of His return, but we can be certain He will! Those who have received Christ as Lord and Savior will enjoy eternal bliss, those without Christ will suffer eternal d**nation (Matthew 24:36-37; Acts 1:11; John 5:28-29; 2 Peter 3:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 18).
We believe that salvation is wholly of grace, but conditioned solely on repentance toward God and acceptance of Christ by faith. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5)
We believe in the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit, that He personally dwells within and guides those who are true believers, and empowers the, for service, giving unto them various gifts and producing within their lives the fruits of Christian Character. (I John 2:27, Romans 8:9,11,16,26 , John 14:26 & 16:13, Acts 1:5,8, I Corinthians 12:4,13 Galatians 5:22-23)
Hunters
“So the boy grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.” Genesis 25:27
It takes time to develop the skills to harvest a big buck, a long-bearded gobbler, a bull elk or to take your limit of mallards. Many novice hunters have all the right equipment, but don’t know how to use it. All the equipment in the world is worthless unless God gives us the skills and experience to use it.
Fishermen
“And Jesus walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said unto them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him” Matthew 4:18-20
In that day fishermen were common people of modest means. The fact that Jesus could use ordinary fishermen such as Peter and Andrew to do God’s work demonstrates He doesn’t necessarily need celebrities, superstars, or people of great means to accomplish great things. In God’s eyes we are all important, and we all can play vital roles in His work. But like all good fishermen we must be sure all our hooks are strong and our lines are fresh and strong!
Hunt
“Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me.” Genesis 27:3
In our outdoor endeavors, we must prepare wisely and then hunt hard, because the seasons slip quickly away. So, too, in life time slips away rapidly, but in this hunt we call “life” there are no limits when we place our hope and trust in God.
Fish
And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. John 21:6
Like the tired fishermen on that dawn long ago, listening to and followings His directions always has its rewards!
Deer and other big game animals
“He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on high places.” Psalm 18:33
Depending upon God and His truth can make us as fit for life’s challenges as the deer is for survival in the wild. Just as wild animals depend on God for their every need, so we, too must depend solely on Him.
The Thrill of the hunt
“When I heard, my body trembled; my lips quivered at the voice; rottenness entered by bones; and I trembled in myself…” Habakkuk 3:1a
Every one of us at one time or another has experienced the “moment of truth”…. that heart-pounding time when it appears all our preparation is about to pay off! Deer hunters call this “buck fever” and so it is in our lives when we encounter God himself!
