DELPHI, Ind. (AP) -- The Carroll County coroner said autopsy results should determine whether a man may have died from eating poisonous mushrooms, as his relatives suspect.
51-year-old John Morgan died Tuesday in his home near Delphi, and his sister thinks the mushrooms he ate the night before he died may have killed him.
But Coroner Jerry Reinke says he has to wait for autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Colleen Mraz says the family suspects her brother either had an allergic reaction to morel mushrooms or that a poisonous mushroom was accidentally mixed into the batch he ate.
Reinke says he expects to see the autopsy results early next week.
Janna Beckerman, an assistant professor of plant pathology at Purdue University, says only experienced mushroom hunters should eat anything they pick from the woods.

That's why I don't pick my own. Of course I hear there are some good benefits to some shrooms. They say pink elephants do live in the woods. LOL

I can not remember which is which but there are both poisonous and safe versions of "morels" one has a hollow stem the other is solid. Which is which? Anyone know for absolute positive? I understand this is true for both the black and pink versions.

There are several versions of the false morel, and all false morels are poisonous. Some more than others. False Morels may or may not be hollow and they will have a brain like looking top. If in doubt don't keep it. Morels are hollow and are yellow to gray in color. The yellow ones can get quite large. They are delicious. I've picked about 8 gallons this year.

False Morels The real Deal! Up around here we find the black and the white/yellow/pink morels about this time of year. After researching I guess I have never seen the poisonous one in the wild. Photos courtesy of: americanmushrooms.com/morels.htm This is a must visit site!
