Well, the Lord smiled on me this AM! I got out early just after daylight, a little late. It was very foggy. First let me say it's been a rough season so far for me. The birds have been extremely quite! I've tried everything and every call without any response. This morning things changed. I love to hunt in the fog I always seem to have my best days hunting on foggy days. As soon I got out of my truck I heard a gobble off at some distance. I hit my call and the woods erupted! I started off in the direction where I generally find is a strut zone. As I came over a small hill I could see birds chasing each other! With the fog they could not make me out. I crouched and moved to a small roll bale and setup there. I started calling and believe me everything went wild hens and gobblers, but everything was so excited that no one bird was coming for me! They just kept working each other finally they moved just out of my sight. So I moved a little closer, just where if they came out of the woods they would be in range. Finally after whipping up on the others the ol' boy stepped out of the woods coming to me, and as most times happens he hung up just on the edge of the woods. Lucky for me he was in range. I took the shot and he went down! ;D
Now comes the fun part! He just dropped well I got up pretty slow looking to see where the rest went. I started to walk over to get a good look. Just when I get to him he jumps up and runs into some think stuff! I could not get off another shot, so here I go busting through chasing him. After going about 35 yards I get the second shot this time he gets the whole load! Whewww!
He weighed 23 lbs had a 11 inch beard, and 1 inch spurs.
