I know, it's been done...But if you had to choose only one, which is your favorite deer hunting caliber. (Old faithful classics or new fangled hot-rods?)
PS- To start things off. I would hunt the rest of my days with the 30.06.

if i had to pick one deer cartridge it would be the .270. if i had to pick just one centerfire (for every thing) it would be the 30-06. if i had to pick just one firearm it would be a 12ga.

I've gotta go with the 7mm Remington Magnum. Not for any specific reason except that is what my favorite deer rifle happens to be chambered in. It shoots very flat, hits like a wrecking ball, and just flat out gets the job done from up close to way out there. There are a lot of cartridges out there like that (.270, 30-06, 300 mag, etc.) but I just happened to get this one. gd

My first large caliber was an old 7.62 Russian army rifle. When I was 14 I bought a 7mmrem. mag. I have used it for all types of hunting. I find that it will reach out to almost impossiable distances and still be flat and on the money. I have shot lots of other calibers, 30-06,30-30, 375h&h mag. but my old 7mm mag. has done the trick for me. I can shoot a small weight , or a large heavy load. I have taken everything from squirrels to elk, and lots of deer. It has good knock down power, and good pennetraing power. That would be my caliber, But in all I would like to also have my 12gage, and my 22 also. Add that and a 4wheel , and a buck pocket knife, and a country boy or girl can surive.... MJEdens
