Here's a question. Given the constraints of chooosing between a .24 cal/6mm and a .25 cal, what round would you choose? In addition, this will be an open-country deer round (small end of deer size), and I reload, so bullet choices are not a concern for any caliber. I'm leaning between a 25-06 and a .243. What do you think?

I looked in the Hodgdon '08 Manual, and they listed a weight range of 55gr-107gr for the .243, and 75gr-125gr for the .25-06. I dont think there is a lot of difference in either one as far as deer go. If you EVER want to try shooting varmints (coyotes, prairie dogs, etc.), than I would go with the .243, just because you have that lighter bullet option. If its strictly small open country deer, Id go with the .25-06. I always try to think of the economics as well, and the .243 uses less powder to shoot a bullet of the same weight as the .25-06. For what its worth...

I'm looking for a deer rifle for MsHardcase, and it's come down to .243 or a 25.06. Thanks for some added info.
