Were there ever any true 100 lb beaver? The biggest I ever saw was an 84 pound giant. I asked all the old trappers and fur buyers around here, and they all thought beaver never grew that big. All except one old fur buyer........He had heard rumors of a subspecies found in the Chippewa drainage, in Wisconsin, when the first trappers came to that area, that might have gone 100 or better. I've been thinking.....Were they truly "out there" ?? That 84 pounder was weighed on a certified scale, and written up in the local paper, back when I was a young guy.........
